About

It began with a meditation on what defines good interior design.

On a truly fall day in October two thousand and ten Vancouver-based designer, Vanessa Elizabeth sat perched on her kitchen chair over a cup coffee thinking about the blog she’d long wanted to start. It would be an interactive place to examine design and connect with others who share that same passion.

But mostly, it would rest on the idea that great design is inspired by life. A space that one lives in is highly personal. Not only is it filled with your belongings, it is the keeper of memories – a physical memoir of your life. It should be a space that fits into your life, and not the other way around. Design needs to reflect the individual who experiences it on a daily basis. It should be the outward expression of your essence.

Some of Vanessa’s fondest memories growing up involve design. “Creative endeavors seem to innately be part of what I choose to pursue in life, though it took me a while to be cognizant of that. In high school, I undulated between phases of sewing, painting my walls (which I’m sure my parents now regret agreeing to) and photography. Now, I find an even greater satisfaction in creating something for someone else – a space that someone else will live their life in. It’s an intimate endeavor that really required you to know the client as well as yourself.”

Originally a student of visual arts and literature, Vanessa decided to kindle her love for interior design after completing her Bachelor of Arts at the University of British Columbia. She is now living out her dreams in Vancouver.
